Some of my favorite pieces of antique jewelry are Menuki decorations like this one that were from Samurai swords that had been disassembled in the late 1800’s. Made of mixed metals with a combination of gold, silver, copper and bronze that are commonly referred to as Shakudo. This small pendant is an excellent example of the fine craftsmanship often found in these pieces. The pendant measures 1 inch tall not including the bale by ¾ inch wide. It features a figural centerpiece adorned with a small rabbit at the top left. Very unusual and very rare piece of Japanese history and artistic design.
